Collaborative Law
The collaborative law process involves collaboratively trained attorneys who assist their clients in defining their objectives, addressing divorce or other family law issues, evaluating the alternatives and formulating solutions best suited to the facts of the specific case. While the collaborative process is voluntary, the parties' respective lawyers sign an agreement requiring them to withdraw if litigation cannot be avoided. If the parties are unable to reach a solution, the attorneys then withdraw and refer the parties to other lawyers. In this way, collaborative law encourages the resolution of conflict outside of the courtroom.
Our attorneys encourage you to consider the benefits of a collaborative divorce. The collaborative process has proven to be successful by saving time, money and emotional distress.
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) - Mediation
Divorce courts in Texas generally require an attempt to resolve the case through mediation first. If ADR fails, then a trial can be scheduled. The experienced attorneys at Woods, May & Matlock, P.C. have significant experience seeking fair Mediation Settlement Agreements. A Mediation Settlement Agreement contains an outline of the settlement terms. The terms of the settlement can address issues such as child custody, property division, child support and spousal support, in addition to any other issue unique to your situation.
